The metropolitan area offers many opportunities to enjoy the arts and other types of entertainment. The Foothills Art Center, adjacent to the Colorado School of Mines campus, hosts many exhibits throughout the year and the Jefferson Symphony holds concerts in the CSM Green Center several times per year. There are several museums and galleries in Golden such as the Colorado Railroad Museum, CSM's Geology Museum, the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum, Golden Pioneer Museum, Boetcher Mansion, and the Astor House Hotel Museum. The Buffalo Bill Museum and Grave Site is located to the west of Golden on Lookout Mountain. Heritage Square, a victorian shopping and entertainment village, is just south of town. The Morrison Natural History Museum is further to the south in the town of Morrison. The historic mining towns of Black Hawk and Central City are about 20 miles west of Golden and now offer limited stakes gambling.

Theater productions, concerts, amusement parks, and many more entertainment attractions are located nearby in Denver. The Colorado Symphony plays at Boettcher Concert Hall in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts at Speer & Arapahoe in downtown Denver. The Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science are near each other at 20th and Colorado Boulevard in Denver. The Denver Art Musem is located in downtown Denver at 100 West 14th Avenue Parkway. The Denver Public Library, well known for its collection of western Americana and its model Children's Library is nearby at 10 West 14th Avenue Parkway. DPL holdings exceed 4 million and the Library ranked 9th among U.S. public libraries in circulation in 1996.

The Denver Botanic Gardens, southeast of downtown Denver at 1005 York, offers educational and special programs throughout the year. The Butterfly Pavilion & Insect Center, opened in 1995, was the first stand alone non-profit insect zoo in the nation. This zoo is located at 6252 West 104th Avenue in Westminster. The Children's Museum of Denver is an interactive museum for children of all ages, located near 23rd Avenue and I-25 in Denver.
