Recreational opportunities abound in the Golden area for residents and visitors alike. The Golden Community Center, located at 1470 10th Street next to Lions Park, welcomes residents and visitors alike. The Center has a lap pool, leisure and therapy pools, and a water slide; gymnasium, jogging track, and climbing wall; outdoor play areas, sun deck, youth room, and senior citizens center. There are numerous bike paths and hiking trails in Golden and throughout the Denver metropolitan area and adjacent foothills. Sailing, windsurfing, boating, fishing, and other water sports are popular at nearby reservoirs, lakes, and streams. Clear Creek is a popular spot to raft and kayak during some parts of the year. The Clear Creek History Ranch Park is being developed along 11th Street on the banks of Clear Creek. This site will host ongoing 1870s living history re-enactments, festivals, and concerts and theater in the amphitheater. Historic buildings have been moved to the site and are being preserved.

The truly adventurous are often seen hang gliding and parasailing over Lookout Mountain and rock climbers frequent North Table Mountain. Golden is home to the American Alpine Club, the only national organization devoted to climbing and mountaineering. The AAC and the Colorado Mountain Club are housed in the American Mountaineering Center located at 710 10th Street; 384-9145.
Golden has several city parks. Lions Park is located toward the west end of 10th Street adjacent to the Golden Community Center. Parfet Park is at the east corner of 10th and Washington, across from the Golden Visitor's Center and 10th from the American Mountaineering Center. Other parks and recreation areas are scattered throughout the city and adjacent areas. Information on local parks is available from the City of Golden's web site.
