Honeyman, Senate President, called the meeting to order.

COMMENTS FROM GUESTS:

  1. EVPAA Middleton
    1. There will be a reception to welcome John Poate, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, on January 27, 2006 in the Geology Museum.
    2. Departments/divisions are finalizing their self-study reports for ABET.
    3. With the passing of Referendum C, CCHE is requesting state legislature to restore unfunded enrollment from 2001. For CSM, that would be about $3.9M. However, CSM would get this amount over a period of time.
    4. The governor wants to keep tuition increases low.

  2. AVPAA Sacks
    1. The Handbook Committee is developing a facility use policy for external groups. This should be completed and published within the next two weeks to allow for a 30-day review period before being adopted.
    2. The Faculty Data Form will be revised to include an area for goals and objectives for the following year. Faculty evaluations will have five possible ratings - exemplary, exceed expectations, satisfactory, needs improvement and unsatisfactory.

APPROVALS:

  1. The minutes of the December 6, 2005 Faculty Senate meeting were approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

  1. Undergraduate Council
    1. Energy Minor in Petroleum Engineering was presented by Fanchi. The Undergraduate Council approved this minor with the provisos that this minor be an institutional minor, similar to BELS; and that a broader representation of course work be offered. As a detailed text of the minor had not been presented to the Senate, a decision on this minor will be made February 7, 2006.
    2. BS in Manufacturing Science and Engineering was presented by Boyd. Moore made a brief statement encouraging the Senate to read the documentation on this proposed degree before making a decision. The Senate requested Honeyman to invite both Jim Ely and John Moore to the February 21, 2006 Senate meeting to present their arguments on this degree. Each presenter will be allowed a total of 20 minutes for their prepared remarks and questions. The Senators want to know the economic impact and the student demand for this degree.

  2. Admissions - After discussion, the Senators agreed to extend an invitation to Bill Young and Harold Cheuvront to address the Senate February 7th regarding the CSM admissions policy
