COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES FACULTY SENATE MINUTES

ATTENDEES: Andersen, Christiansen, Dagdelen, Davis, Mehta, Parker, Romberger, Santi, Vincent, and Wolden

APOLOGIES: Honeyman, Mishra and Voorhees

GUESTS: Mark Lusk - Chair of Mechanical Engineering, John Moore - Department Head Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Dennis Readey - Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Kyle Fitzpatrick - Undergraduate Student Representative ASCSM, and Robert Applegate - President, CSM Graduate Student Association

Christiansen, Senate Secretary, called the meeting to order.

COMMENTS FROM GUESTS:

  1. Kyle Fitzpatrick reported that ASCSM was disappointed with the Senate's approval of the plus/minus grading system even though it does not affect the undergraduates directly.

  2. Rob Applegate reported that Graduate Student Association Research Fair will be April 5, 2006 in the Green Center from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.

PRESENTATION:

  1. BS in Manufacturing Engineering - Mark Lusk presented the concerns with the proposed degree and John Moore presented the rationale of the proposed degree. A lengthy discussion with the Senators ensued. No decision was made.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  1. Next Senate Meeting - April 18, 2006 - Approval of graduation lists

  2. Andersen announced that no nominations have been received for the Senate positions.

The meeting adjourned at 3:50 pm.
