COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES FACULTY SENATE MINUTES
August 28, 2007 – 2:00 PM

Mishra, Senate President, called the meeting to order and welcomed the guests.
COMMENTS FROM GUESTS:
- Arthur Sacks - On behalf of Nigel Middleton, Sacks conveyed the best wishes to the Faulty Senate for the 2007-2008 year. He highlighted the Non-discrimination Policy and the need for the campus to adopt it. Sacks also reported that approximately 880 undergraduates and 280 graduate students have been admitted to CSM this year for Fall 2007.
- Ryan Ford - Stated that the ASCSM meeting was scheduled for Thrusday, August 30
SENATE PRESENTATION:
Mishra informed that Derek WIlson will be invited to the next Senate meeting for discussions on AC&N support to academic units.
APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES:
The May 8, 2007 Faculty Senate Minutes were approved.
OLD BUSINESS:
- The Council/Committee appointments were confirmed and the open positions were filled. Andersen will provide the updated list of appointments at the next Senate meeting. Requests have been received for Senate appointment and recommendation to the Assessment Committee and the Promotion & Tenure Committee, respectively.
- Review of completed actions from 2006-2007: Mishra reviewed the list of Senate action items from the previous year and it was decided that this list for the current year be maintained on the Senate website with updated items and the list of people whom the action items are communicated. The action item on the new Honor System was discussed. In light of the issues related to the system and other factors. The Undergraduate Council was asked to revisit the metal diploma presentation at commencements.
- Update of Academic Faculty By-Laws: The academic faculty approved (August 20, 200 7) by-laws were reviewed and changes were suggested. These changes will be incorporated and the by-laws will be posted on the website shortly.
NEW BUSINESS:
- The Senate Distinguished Lecture by University Emeritus Professor Dennis Ready will be held on the fourth Wednesday in March 2008.
- The Faculty Forum on Wednesday, September 26, 2007 will be held on Reserach Compliance. ORA Director, Ralph Brown, will speak.
- The Senate will not have the services of Alice Jensen during the year. Mishra has appointed Travis Koenig to assist the Senate.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
None of the Committees have had a meeting during the current academic session. No reports were presented.
