COMMENTS FROM GUESTS:

  1. EVPAA Middleton asked the Senate to be thoughtful and sensitive to issues that involve the entire CSM community, such as the fee for service, amendments C & D, major research collaborations and other entities working with CSM and how these might be affected with regards to the turbulence between the BOT and the Faculty on the presidential search. This same message was given to the BOT.

  2. Fitzpatrick reported the ASCSM has identified two action items. One is Amendments C & D and the other is the presidential search. The mid-October Oredigger will be devoted to these two issues. On behalf of ASCSM, Fitzpatrick extended an invitation to the Senate to write a statement for the Oredigger and also to attend their October 20th meeting and present its perspective on the Presidential Search. The meeting will be at 7:00 PM in Ben Parker Student Center - Ballroom C.

APPROVALS:

  1. The minutes of the September 20, 2005 Faculty Senate meeting were approved as amended.

OLD BUSINESS:

  1. Ad Hoc Curriculum Committee Senate Representative - Since the charge of this ad hoc committee is to look at undergraduate core courses, the Senators requested that Honeyman ask Mehta to serve on this committee as he is the Senate representative on the Undergraduate Council. As Mehta is in India, Honeyman will attend the first meeting of this committee and report back to the Senate.

  2. Presidential Search - A discussion ensued on this topic, the September Faculty Forum, and the BOT's response to the Faculty's concern.

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. Faculty Senate Minutes - The Senators concurred they need to be more diligent in reading and responding to the draft of the Faculty Senate minutes that are sent before the meeting and communicating any concerns to the recording secretary before the next meeting.

FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS:

  1. Make a decision regarding Athletic Faculty representation on the Faculty Senate

  2. Role of the Faculty Senate as a bridge to different groups within the CSM community

The meeting adjourned at 3:15 PM.
