The Native American Energy and Minerals Institute

Colorado Plateau
(Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Utah)
Aggregate Geology, Mining, Marketing and Agreements

April 11-13, 2007

COURSE OVERVIEW

This course will cover various aspects of aggregate development.  The intent of this course is to provide students with a basic working knowledge of all aspects of aggregate development.  The curriculum will include a discussion on types of aggregate sources from both hard rock and sand & gravel type deposits and the geologic settings in which they are found.  Mine planning, mining, production methods, equipment, leasing and types of mineral agreements will also be discussed.

Instructors will highlight aspects of the aggregate market focusing on the Colorado Plateau aggregate industry and geology. This should enable the student to make better business decisions when trying to develop a venture and break into the aggregate market.

Finally, students will learn about the environmental components of aggregate development.  Included in this topic are adherence to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the various types of permitting normally required prior to beginning development of an operation, reclamation, and bonding.
