Physics

If you want to know what the technology of the future holds, peek into the physics laboratories of today.
Physics has traditionally attracted those who wish to understand nature at its most fundamental level. A professional physicist is motivated primarily by curiosity and inspired by the complexity and beauty of the world’s mechanisms. There is also the practical utility that comes with a deep understanding of physics. A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Physics from Mines provides the background and experience that graduates need to develop new ideas and solve real-world problems.

The Department of Physics at Mines has one of the largest undergraduate programs in the country, and for good reason. The degree is very flexible, providing top-notch preparation for graduate school as well as the qualities sought by employers in industry and government. Some students choose the combined program, which involves a fifth year of study leading to a Master of Science degree in either physics or a related discipline, such as mathematics or engineering (materials, mechanical, electrical, or nuclear).
