Summer Academic Focused Education

July 20-24, 2015

The Colorado School of Mines SAFE - DPS Program is organized to provide activities, experiments, projects, and field experiences for students entering 9th grade, who will be attending East High School, JFK High School, and MLK Early College in the fall of 2015. The program promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, with a focus on engaging non-traditional STEM students. Students attend the program free of charge. Students currently in grade 8 who have an interest in science and mathematics, and at least a B average in science and mathematics courses are eligible to apply.  Preference will be given to students who have received a proficient score on the DPS mid-year Physical Science exam (if applicable). Immediate family members of Colorado School of Mines faculty are not be eligible for the program.

Are you an incoming freshman who likes and excels in math and science?  Do you want to see and learn, with hands on projects how math, science, and engineering are related to everything we do and use on a daily basis?

  1. Completed On-Line Application (link below)
  2. Two letters of recommendations; one from your current math teacher, the other from your science teacher.  Recommendation forms must be signed, dated, and sealed by the teacher.  Teacher recommendations should be completed using the SAFE Teacher Recommendation FormPDF versionText only version.

Key Dates:

  • SAFE - DPS Program runs from July 20-24, 2015
  • Application Deadline is April 17, 2015
  • Mandatory Orientation for students and parent/guardian will be in early May at each respective high school.  Accepted students will be notified of orientation dates in late April.
