Sarah: For the Win

Friday, February 17, 2012

My schedule this semester is fantastic!  My first class on Monday is at noon, on Tuesday my day starts at two, and the rest of the week my earliest classes are at ten.  The draw back to this is that my classes end at six or seven every night…  But the way my classes fall allows for homework time in the morning, and about an hour of homework time between each class.  Because of this, by the time I am finished each day my assignments are nearly done!  Plus the amount of sleep I’m getting this semester is outstanding; at least 7 hours a night makes life a dream.  A ton of people urged me to avoid five o clock EPICS, but I say give it a chance, you might find that spreading your classes out helps with time management!

A miracle occurred at Mines on the bright snowy morning of February 3rd, 2012… the school called a SNOW DAY!  That day, the Mines campus was full of joy and excitement.  Several students took time to sled down sorority hill, while others anxiously caught up on homework.  My friends and I decided to tackle a 1000 piece photo mosaic puzzle, which my mom sent to school with me since we had never been able to complete it.  I knew my friends wouldn’t let me down, and we were able to finish the puzzle in less than 48 hours.  We had a lot of help though! My roomie and I kept our door open so our hall mates could assist, and our RA joined us in the final stretch and had the honor of placing the final piece!  I can’t imagine a better way to spend a snow day weekend than hanging with friends and working together.

Piecing things together and the final product!

This year, Valentines Day was a flash back to grade school.  The girls of Randall 3rd decided it would be fun to exchange cards, so about a week in advance plastic bags were taped to each door.  The weekend before Valentines, the bags began filling up with cards addressed from roomies, and some from individuals.  It was a cool thing to do, and it meant that no one was left with out a Valentine!  Randall 3rd rocks!!

The Valentines I received, feel the love!!

My first experience of Mines was going to a basketball game and hanging out with the pep band after a long day at Discover Mines.  From that experience I learned two things… Mines has a great men’s varsity basketball team, and the band is insane!  Since I’m a little bit crazy, I joined the Mines band when I arrived in August and have thoroughly enjoyed the quirky band atmosphere that I now exist in.  When January rolled around, I got to experience my first basketball game as a member of the pep band and it was a blast!!  We play during almost every time out, and during half time, then we frantically run to Berthoud hall between the women and men’s games for a dinner provided by Kappa Kappa Psi (the band service fraternity.)  Also, there are occasionally drawings at the games for epic prizes.  At a recent game I won an iPad!!  The games are always tons of fun, and every student should hit up a basketball game at some point to show some school spirit
