Are you passionate
about engineering? Do you love math, science, and computers? If you
answered yes, then SUMMET is the program for you. The SUMMET program
is part of the Minority Engineering Program at the Colorado School of
Mines. By participating in SUMMET, you get the opportunity to experience
the rigors of college life, the challenges of the college-leveled courses,
and the liveliness of SUMMET parties. You will have the chance to meet
new and exciting people from a wide range of cultural backgrounds and
be able to work together and learn from each other.
About SUMMET
The
SUMMET program has been a part of the Minority Engineering Program at
the Colorado School of Mines for thirty seven years. The program is
three weeks long, and consists of two weeks of classes, two exams, and
a week-long research project plus presentation. Students will receive
introductory instruction in the fields of calculus, chemistry, circuits,
computers, earth science, economics, petroleum, physics, and strengths.
The students will live on
the Colorado School of Mines campus in real college dorms, and have
access to actual college resources to aid them in their studies. Room
and board will be provided to the students. There are classes and other
scheduled activities, but also free time for the students to use to
their own advantage. Scheduled study sessions ensure all the required
help that the students need from the teachers, and encourage a group
atmosphere with students helping each other. All the students will exposed
to something new. And even though the main focus of this program is
on fields associated with engineering, students will also be exposed
to presentation and technical writing skills.
To further student understanding
of the subjects are hands-on experiments in the CSM labs. Scattered
throughout the three weeks are numerous tours and activities for the
participants to enjoy. The activities are designed to be both educational
and entertaining, and show students how engineering is applied in real
life opportunities.
The entire program costs approximately $1500 per
student, but the School of Mines is willing to cover the vast majority
of the costs. As a result, the participants only pay $50 of the original
cost. The CSM firmly believes that this program is beneficial to the
students, and sees it as an opportunity to enlarge fields associate
with engineering. The SUMMET program is fun, exciting, and enjoyable.
All students should seize this opportunity to participate in this great
program, and participate in a great learning experience.
So are you ready to Travel into the mind of an engineer...?
