Spring 2005

Welcome to Astronomy Club Spring 2005 semester. Below are the event days, locations, and times. Normally, events are Wednesdays at 9PM, bi monthly, in MH 375. I will send any changes or last minute announcements by e-mail, so please make sure you are on the e-mail list. If not, please contact me: bmccoy@mines.edu.

 Wednesday, January 26th: First Meeting! Hernan Birckenstaedt will be giving a presentation on some new and very usefull sky software. It will be in MH 375 at 9PM. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

Tuesday, Feburary 8th: Field Trip to the Denver Observatory. This is free to those who have paid thier dues. The show is at 7PM, and we will meet in the MH parking lot to carpool.

Thursday, Febuary 24th: Field Trip to Fiske. We will see a show about Mars. This is free to those who have paid thier dues. The show is at 7PM, and we will meet in the MH parking lot to carpool.

Wednesday, March 9th: Cool video, drinks, candy, and popcorn, in MH 375 at 9PM.

Wednesday, March 30th: Star Party! This will be in the PA101 fields (where you played ultimate fristbee as a freshman) next to Brook's field at 9PM.

Wednesday, April 13th: Star Party! PA101 fields, 9PM.

Wednesday, April 27th: This is our last meeting! It will be a "Rocket Meeting" where we watch a cool "homemade" rocket video and make rockets. It will be in MH375 at 9PM.We will launch  them within the next couple of days; more information to come.

CAMPING TRIP: Jodi Lawrence is working on a camping trip so we can get away from the light pollution! It is tenitively scheduled for April 10th and 11th. Contact Jodi (jlawrenc@mines.edu) for more information.


Fall 2004


Welcome to the Astronomy Club! I'm the new president, Bonnie, for the 2004-2005 school year. This year, I've decided to structure the club a little bit differently. Below is the information for the Fall 2004 semester.

When: Meetings are bi-monthly, on Wednesdays at 9PM. See dates below.
What: We will look at starts for an hour at every meeting. We will provide snacks, telescopes/binoculars, and other necessary supplies.
Where: TBA, we will meet in the Meyer Hall parking lot at 9PM to carpool to the site.
Dues: $10 for year 2004-2005.
Contact: If you would like to join, please contact me, Bonnie McCoy, bmccoy@mines.edu. You can also follow the directions further down the page if you would like to add yourself to the mailing list.

Don't forget to stop by the Astronomy Club booth at Celebration at Mines. This is Friday, September 3rd from 10AM-2PM.

There will also be a field trip to the planetarium, that will be announced via e-mail.

On meeting days, we will stay at the site until approximately 10PM. Feel free to bring your own telescope and supplies. Please dress for the weather; meetings will not be cancelled in the event of cold weather. If the weather is cloudy, members will recieve a cancellation via e-mail no later than 30 minutes before the meeting.

The astronomy club will be using the astroclub@mines.edu moderated mail list to distribute announcements and astronomy related news. Any member of the mines community can subscribe to this list from the web at https://maillistmgr.mines.edu/cgi-bin/maillistmgr/maillist.cgi (you need your slate username and password). Messages to this list will not be automatically forwarded to the subscribers, but need to be Ok'd by one of the moderators.
