CSM Road Team Ranked 4th in Nation

Team places among the best at NCCA Road Nationals

May 9-11, 2008. Just two weeks after winning the Rocky Mountain Conference Title, the CSM Cycling team took 4th Place against the Nation's best teams at the 2008 NCCA Road National Championship. Nearly 40 Division II schools competed in a series of events to determine which schools would rank among the top collegiate cyclists. CSM was represented by Zak Grabowski, Melissa Marts, Topher Hurley, Brady Kappius, Aaron Heun, Shawn Higgins, JT Teerlink, Sarah Roberts, and Alex Dobrinen.

Tallying the results from the road race, criterium, and team time trial, the team came in 4th Place overall, just behind MIT, Western Washington, and Dartmouth. Consistent results by all team members helped to boost the team's standing.

Looking forward to the fall semester, the team hopes to defend its 2007 National Mountain Bike Championship Title in North Carolina near the end of October, 2008.

About the team

Who we are

CSM Cycling is the official cycling team of the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado. We are a coed club sport that races competitively in races all over the mid-west. Our team consists of about 70 members with around 35 active racers, both men and women, that race in all disciplines of cycling from the beginner to the professional level. Meet the team.

We're always looking to recruit new talent and provide members with the opportunity to compete in both mountain bike and road disciplines. Our continued goal is to qualify for and attend the Collegiate National Championships each season.

New Riders

Interested in joining?

pic Every fall, dozens of new riders join our team, the vast majority having never raced before. Racing at the collegiate level is a fun way of introducing competitive cycling to the average cyclist. The mountain bike season happens in the fall of each school year, while the road season takes place during the spring semester.

If you're interested in joining, come to our orientation meeting that happens at the beginning of each semester and join us on a team ride. If you're joining mid-season, don't worry about it, contact us and we'll get you started! We're always looking for new riders, especially women. While we are a racing team, the atmosphere on our team is low-key, and we're all there to have fun before anything else. Don't worry if you have never raced, most of us started cycling right here at CSM too.

Any CSM student, faculty or alumni can join the team, though you must be a full time student to race. Make sure to join our mailing list and to register for our team forum!
