Three racers on each team will compete in two heats of the Rodeo event and the two remaining racers of each team will compete in one heat of the Boater Cross. Each team member is given two chances to run through the course. The best of the two runs will count. The goal is to run the course with the lowest possible time and the least number of penalties. Each racer must go thought a series of gates, both with and against the flow of the river, to obtain points. Penalties are awarded for missing gates, entering gates the wrong way, hitting gates, and moving gates. Touching a gate - 2 second penalty. Touching both polls once or more than once on one gate is still only 2 seconds Intentionally moving or pushing gate (moving gate with paddle for better position) - 50 second penalty. Negotiating gate in wrong direction - 50 second penalty Missing a gate - 50 second penalty Max penalty at any gate is 50 seconds Swimmers are automatically given a DNF (Did not Finish) and will be given a time of 7 minutes. Each racer's best time with penalties added will be combined for a team slalom score. BOATER CROSS To get the blood flowing and the excitement building this is the first event of the day. Two racers from each team will participate in this event, one in each of the two heats. There will be a mass start from the top of the course. The object of the race is to make it through the designated gates on the course as fast as possible while others are trying to do the same. One racer per team per heat Based on speed, getting through all of the gates in the right direction. No points will be deducted for touching or moving a gate. If a gate is missed, a boater will be given a DNF (did not finish). There will be no intentional skirt pulling or hitting with paddles. Swimmers are automatically given a DNF The person in each heat with the fastest time will have 60 seconds subtracted from their final team score. The person in each heat with the second fastest time will have 45 seconds subtracted from their final team score. The person in each heat with the third fastest time will have 30 seconds subtracted from their final team score. Every team member who finishes the race but does not place in the top three will get 10 seconds subtracted from their final team score RODEO EVENT Three members per team are invited to play in a "hole" in the creek. Each competitor is given 45 seconds to show off his or her skill in the water. As seen from last year this is a big crowd pleaser. There will be two heats for each competitor. Three judges will rate each competitor according to the difficulty of their moves and their style. Two technical judges and 1 variety judge. There will be 10 points available for style which the variety judge will award. Technical points will be awarded for different moves based on difficulty Moves are scored as 180 degree direction changes: Flat - 1 point, Elevated (45 degrees or more) - 2 points Surfing anytime: 1 point. Back surf after direction change: 2 points. Each different move will count for 10 points towards the variety score. The total technical points, style points and variety points will be added together for each competitor's total. The total number of points from all three team member's best heat will be subtracted from the teams final time. Example of scoring for heat: Technical/ variety points:
