Bylaws of the Colorado School of Mines Shooting Club

Article I Name of Organization

The name of this organization shall be the "Colorado School of Mines Shooting Club," or may be alternatively addressed by the acronym CSMSC.

Article II Purpose

The purpose of this club shall be threefold. First is to educate the Colorado School of Mines (CSM) community as well as the general public on pro-firearms/archery issues by providing visible leadership by example and through the dissemination of pertinent information. Second is to promote the safe and responsible use of all types of firearms and archery equipment by facilitating formal and informal classes. Third is to promote the safe enjoyment of all areas of shooting sports to include archer y, by facilitating formal and informal shooting activities.

Article III Membership

Section 1. Membership in CSMSC is open to the entire CSM community: with out regard to age (except as stipulated by law), ethic origin, gender, physical ability, race, religious or sexual preferences; to include alumni, faculty, staff, full or part time graduate or undergraduate students and their respective immediate families. Members may join or resign from the club by notifying the club Secretary or other designated party of their intent. The only benefit granted to members is inclusion on CSMS C mail and E-mailing lists.

Section 2. Preferred Membership is open only to full and part time graduate or undergraduate CSM students in good academic standing with out regard to age (except as stipulated by law) ethic origin, gender, physical ability, race, religious or sexua l preferences. A nominal fee of $5.00 per person, per year shall be assessed to each eligible member who wishes to become a Preferred Member. Preferred Members may resign by notifying the club Secretary or other designated party of their intent at any c lub activity or meeting. The annual Preferred Membership fee shall not be refunded for any reason.

Section 3. Members, Preferred Members and their respective guests my attend meeting and participate in club activities. However, only Preferred Members may make or act on any motions or cast votes in any elections.

Section 4. The Preferred Membership may by simple quorum vote, expel any Preferred Member, or Member whose conduct grossly violates any of CSMSC's purposes, especially the safe and responsible handling of firearms.

Section 5. No membership fee or dues shall be assessed, except as noted in Section 2 of Article III. However, the Preferred Members may vote to require contributions by those participating in such club activities as may incur expenses.

Article IV Officers

Section 1. The officers of this club shall consist of the President, Vice-President, and Secretary/Treasurer.

Section 2. Candidates for office must be eligible to become a Preferred Member, be at least a sophomore if in CSM's under graduate program and are highly encouraged to be members of the National Rifle Association.

Section 3. All club officers must be Preferred Members in good standing.

Section 4. Elections shall be held during the spring semester at the first business meeting in April. All officers are elected to a one-year term of service commencing the day after the end of the spring semester.

Section 5. If the office of President should become vacant for any reason, the Vice-President shall fill that vacancy for the remainder of the term. If any office other than the President shall become vacant, that vacancy shall be filled by appoint ment by the President for the remainder of the term.

Section 6. No one shall hold more than one office at a time and no one shall be eligible to serve more than two consecutive terms in the same office.

Section 7. The officers shall perform the duties prescribed by these bylaws and by the parliamentary authority adopted by the club.

Article V Meetings

Section 1. The club shall hold at least one regular business meeting a month in each month that CSM is in school during the spring and fall semesters. The time, day and location of this meeting shall be set by vote of the Preferred Membership and shall be published, or posted via two separate mediums not less than one week prior to the meeting.

Section 2. The regular meeting in April shall be for the purpose of electing officers.

Section 3. Special meetings may be called by the President or by the request of five Preferred Members. At least two days notice via one medium shall be given prior to any special meeting.

Section 4. Business shall be transacted by a quorum of sixty percent (60%) of the Preferred Membership.

Section 5. The highest club officer in attendance shall preside at the club meeting.

Article VI Parliamentary Authority

Section 1. The rules contained in the current edition of Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised, shall govern the club in all cases to which they are applicable and in which they are not inconsistent with the bylaws and any special rules of order the club may adopt.

Section 2. Robert's Rules of Order shall be suspended for the remainder of any given meeting by a simple quorum vote of the Preferred Members in attendance of said meeting.

Article VII Amendment of the Bylaws

Section 1. These bylaws can be amended at any meeting of the club by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Preferred Membership, provided that the amendment(s) had been submitted in writing at a previous meeting, not less than two weeks prior to the vote.
