Itinerary
Itinerary: Note, there is a 3 hour time difference. Also no agricultural products can be taken into Hawaii. Prepackaged and snack food is ok.
Thur. March 12th:
- travel United
- 6:30am leave Denver
- 12:30pm arrive Kona
- Stay Kileaua Military Camp (KMC) (808) 967-8334
- Reservations # 181595 $7.75/pp/day x 12 people for 4
nights
- Check-in 3pm -10pm.
- 1 dorm room with 11 single beds and 1 bathroom (linens and towels
included).
- Facilities include: cafeteria open 7-9:30am breakfast, lunch, 5-8pm;
bowling alley and snack bar until 9:30pm
- Please Note: This is a military facility located within Hawaii Volcano National Park (HVNP) and operates under military rules.
Fri. March 13th:
- Paul Okubo and Asta or Mike available for HVO tour and talks.
- describe the history of the seismic network and a demonstration of
the GPS monitoring system.
- Christina Heliker will do short talk after 2pm.
- with a tour of the fringes of the volcano, and explain the
geochemistry, morphology, and lithology local region
- Explore crater/park.
Sat. March 14th:
- NPS will give a guided tour of nonpublic
lava tubes within HVNP.
- Jim Kauahikaua will lead trip to flow field on coast with surveying,
EM 31 etc., use of USGS 4-wheel drives, best for afternoon into evening.
Sun. March 15th:
- Hawaii National Park. Hike to the Lava Pond.
- Perform an EM survey at Lava tubes in Kilauea.
- Extra precautions will be necessary given the date.
Mon. March 16th:
- Round the island day tour.
- Waipio valley
- Zenolith beds
- Puukohola National Park
- snorkeling.

Tue. March 17th:
- Kealakekua Bay and City of Refuge
- Travel home:
- 10:35pm leave Kona United
Wed. March 18th:
