$80) you will be able to rent climbing gear for FREE for the rest of the semester. The Rock Climbing
Gear Pass can only be used to rent climbing equipment from GEAR UP. It doesn't work for any other
ORC Gear. FYI: GEAR UP equipment can only be used at our wall. Participants can't rent equipment
from GEAR UP and leave the building with it.
What do I need to do in order to climb at the climbing wall? You need to come in and sign a climbing wall waiver. In order to belay and climb at the wall, you must take and pass our belay test. You will need to demonstrate a mastery of the figure 8 follow through knot with a double fishermanâs finish, all proper climbing commands and the climber/belayer double check. You will be tested on and you must use the B.U.S. (brake, under, slide) belay method in our facility. What if I have never climbed before? We offer belay classes on Mondays and Wednesdayâs at 6:00 pm. We take a maximum of 6 students per class so please stop by ahead of time to reserve your space. Do I need to have my own climbing gear to use the wall? No. You may either rent climbing gear from the Gear Up desk in the SRC or bring your own. GEAR UP rents harnesses, climbing shoes, chalk bags with chalk balls, and belay devices with locking carabiners. What kind of climbing is available? You may boulder and top rope climb. We will offer lead climbing in the future. How old do I have to be in order to climb? You must be at least 14 years of age and have your parent or legal guardian sign a waiver for you if you are under 18. Whatâs up with the boulder outside the ORC? We have an outdoor boulder on the west side of the building that is available for use. The ORC will rent crash pads for free for use at the outdoor boulder during our normal operating hours. |
