The Continuum – A Celebration of Women at Mines

In the spring of 1999, Susan Rainey, a SWE member and graduating senior, wanted to organize an event to honor and recognize the women graduating from Mines. Susan was responsible for bringing SWE, WISEM, and the CSM Alumni Association together to develop and sponsor this biannual event. Each fall and spring semester, on the Wednesday evening before graduation, family, friends, alumnae, and the CSM community are invited to celebrate the accomplishments of these women.

Women’s History Month

Each March, WISEM and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) co-sponsor a noon hour luncheon event to celebrate Women’s History Month. The CSM Diversity Committee adds to the festivities by coordinating displays, banners and give-aways to commemorate women’s accomplishments throughout history.

Society of Women Engineers Meeting

Society of Women Engineers (SWE) meetings are held every Wednesday at noon during the academic year. This is a great opportunity to learn from industry professionals and meet new friends. Members have an opportunity to learn about career opportunities, academic options, and professional development strategies. Lunch is provided to all members through the generous donations of corporate sponsors.

Visit the SWE website and click on the Events button to view the current schedule of topics and speakers.

Female Academic Faculty Meetings

A variety of meetings are held throughout the academic year to bring together female academic faculty to discuss matters such as promotion and tenure, institutional policies, research, and other relevant issues. Dr. Tracy Camp, Coordinator of the CSM Academic Female Faculty Meetings, and Dr. Junko Munakata Marr, Associate Coordinator, are responsible for scheduling the informal lunch and coffee gatherings during the school year.

Beside these informal meetings, two joint events are held each year. The Female Faculty/Graduate Women’s Forum Fall Social allows female graduate students and female faculty to meet at the beginning of the fall semester. In the spring semester, the female academic and administrative faculty are invited to attend a luncheon featuring the projects completed by the CSM Academic Management Institute for Women in Higher Education participants.
