In
1898, Florence Caldwell became the first woman to graduate from
Mines. Since then, more than 3,000 women have followed in her footsteps
and earned Mines degrees.
The
WISEM Program was established in 1997 through a generous grant from
the Chevron Corp. to provide opportunities for women in science
and engineering careers and to increase the retention of female
students, faculty and staff through programming, training and mentoring.
