New service to be activated for all "@mines.edu" email addresses

Improved Services to Control Spam

Unsolicited commercial email, commonly known as spam, has been a frustrating, and growing, problem for most everyone who uses electronic mail.  Academic Computing & Networking (AC&N) has received many complaints and expressions of concern about the volume and content of these unsolicited messages during recent months.  In response to these concerns, AC&N has sought input and evaluated options to provide better spam management options for our email users.  We concluded that the solution must

We recognize that declaring an email to be spam can be quite subjective and we do not want to infringe on any individual’s choice to determine what email messages they receive.  Therefore, our approach to addressing this problem dictates that email users retain as much control as possible over what happens to any email message that is addressed to them, even if it is unsolicited.

A spam identification and filtering system will be implemented in up to three phases beginning on Wednesday, March 3.
