Sending email using Netscape 4.8 from off campus using vpn.mines.edu
This Tutorial assumes that you have Netscape 4.8 set up to receive Mines email from off campus.
- In the mail portion of Netscape 4.8 select Edit -> Preferences
- Click the plus (+) sign next to Mail & Newsgroups

Click on Mail Servers, you should see a screen that looks like Figure 1.

Set up your settings according to the red areas:
- Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: vpn.mines.edu:988
- Outgoing mail server user name: your e-mail username, if your e-mail was jdoe@mines.edu, this would be jdoe
- Click on Always for "Use Secure Socket Layer(SSL) or TLS for outgoing messages"
- Click OK and you should be able to compose a message, click send, and authenticate with your slate password.
