Sending email using Outlook Express 6.0 from off campus using vpn.mines.edu


  • This Tutorial assumes that you have Outlook Express set up to receive Mines email from off campus.

  • Open Outlook Express and select Tools -> Accounts as in Figure 1.

  • Click on the "Mail" tab, select your Mines mail account and select properties on the right as in Figure 2.

  • Select the "Servers" tab
    Figure 3
    • Type "vpn.mines.edu" into "Outgoing mail (SMTP):"
    • Type your username into "Account name:", for example if your e-mail address is jdoe@mines.edu, type jdoe.
    • Check the box next to "My server requires authentication"
  • Select the "Advanced" tab

    • Type 988 into "Outgoing mail (SMTP):"
    • Check the box next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)"
