How to Connect Devices Which do Not Have a Web Browser to the CSM Network

When registering your device for DHCP, you will need to provide us with the MAC address (also known as a "physical address") of your network device. How to find out your MAC address varies with the device you are trying to connect to the network. Instructions for a variety of platforms are located below. Once you have determined the MAC address of the device you are trying to connect to the network, you will need to go to a computer with a web browser and provide that MAC address when completing the DHCP registration form.

Directions for Registering Your XBox® on CSM ResNet

  1. Begin by starting your XBox® without a game disk.
  2. From the Dashboard screen, choose "Settings"
  3. Then click on "Network Settings"
  4. Your MAC address will be located in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. It is 12 digits long and composed of letters and numbers.
  5. Once you have found the MAC address, you will need to use it to fill out the DHCP registration form located here. You will need to use a web browser on a computer located in a residence hall to do this.

Directions for Registering Your XBox 360® on CSM ResNet

  2. Select "Edit Settings." On the "Basic Settings" tab, make sure that your IP settings are on "Automatic."
  3. Next, choose the "Additional Settings" tab.
  4. Then select "Advanced Settings." In the bottom left of this screen you will see your 12-digit "Wired MAC Address." Write this address down.

Directions for Registering Your PlayStation2® on CSM ResNet

  1. Un-plug the system from the network (if it is currently connected.)
  2. Start the system with the Start-Up CD installed.
  3. Step through the setup process until you have completed the network test. The test should fail because the network cable is disconnected.
  4. If you then press the "select" button, you will be taken to a screen which shows your system's 12-digit MAC address. Please write down the MAC address.
  5. Now, using a web browser on a computer located in a residence hall, fill out the DHCP registration form located here. Use the MAC address you just found, when prompted.
