Linux Software, Security & Information Links

If you are looking for the "The Informal GNU/Linux User Group of the CSM" pages they have moved here.

Security Links:

  • Red Hat's Security Page:     http://www.redhat.com/corp/support/errata/index.html

  • Debian's Security Page:     http://www.debian.org/security/

  • Linux Security HOWTO:     http://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/docs/HOWTO/Security-HOWTO

  • Bastille Linux Project:     Go here (http://www.bastile-linux.org/) for a "hardening" script to help secure Red Hat distributions.

  • Security Check:     If you would like to determine whether your cable, DSL, dial-up or any other connection to the network allows outsiders to connect to your machine, check out the following link:     http://grc.com and then click the ShieldsUP! icon.
The "Probe My Ports!" tests are useful for *nix systems. The "Test My Shields!" tests are predominantly aimed at Windows 9x/NT, but also could be useful for *nix systems.

[NOTE: A "pass" with this security check does not necessarily mean your computer is completely safe. For instance, if you have any services running on your computer that are available via the internet, new security holes/vulernabilities are found periodically that could allow unauthorized access to your computer. You should turn off any unneeded services and keep your OS as up-to-date as possible.]
