Updating Existing Authentium's Command Antivirus
Important Note:
As of August 2007 Academic Computing and Networking has begun providing and supporting Symantec Antivirus in place of Authentium's Command Antivirus. This page will continue to provide access to Command Antivirus updates, but Academic Computing and Networking will soon discontinue support.
Virus definition updates
Visit https://hagrid.mines.edu/academic/computer/software/virus/, with your @mines.edu email username and password in hand, to retrieve the current password for the Authentium user "colorado". (Virus definition updates will be picked up directly from Authentium's site instead of a CSM site, using their credential rather than ours.) You need this password to pick up virus definition updates from Authentium regardless of whether you are on-campus or off-campus. In the event in the future that this password fails, it may have changed. Revisit the hagrid site above and get the current one in that case. We do not know at this time how often it is likely to change.
Virus definition update information
If you have an always-on connection, you may set your preferences (Preferences -> Update Now) to automatically download and/or install the current virus definitions. Verify later that this is working (Help->About will tell the dates of your virus definitions, which should be at most a week old). If not, you should periodically (once a week is recommended, unless you become aware of an immediate threat) click the "Update Now..." button while connected to the Internet. In either case you will need to have the "colorado" password, mentioned above, in hand the first time, and will want to check the "Remember this password" setting if it is offered.
If you are not able to get the automated updates to work for you in your situation, create a Mines Help Center service request and we will assist you.
This product was formerly known as F-Prot, as CSAV, as well as Command Antivirus, and is from Authentium, the company formerly known as Command Software.
