Teaching Facilities

ietlThe Integrated Environmental Teaching Lab
The Integrated Environmental Teaching Lab (IETL) consists of two teaching facilities. One is located in Coolbaugh Hall on the CSM campus in the ESE's Teaching Laboratory and provides teaching space and access to bench- and pilot-scale unit operations, such as an activated sludge unit, a CSTR denitrification bioreactor ,and a groundwater remediation set-up with an online hydrocarbon analyzer. Currently, these units are utilized in many courses of our curriculum (ESGN 335 Environmental Engineering Field Camp; ESGN 453 Wastewater Engineering; ESGN 454 Water Supply Engineering; ESGN 500 Environmental Chemistry; ESGN 504 Water and Wastewater Treatment; ESGN 530 Environmental Engineering Pilot Plant Laboratory; ESGN 541 Microbial Process Analysis and Modeling; ESGN 575 Hazardous Waste Site Remediation; and ESGN 603 Advanced Water Treatment Engineering and Reuse.
The second IETL teaching facility is the Water Treatment Pilot Plant which resides at the City of Golden's Water Treatment Plant. This facility is designed to simulate the existing full-scale water treatment process at Golden's Water Plant which consist of coagulation/flocculation, sedimentation, multi-media filtration followed by disinfection.
