The 1st North American Landslide Conference has arranged for two groups
of "Field Trips" (or "Technical Excursions") that are designed to enhance the
experience of all conference participants. These two groups are:
Vail is located in central Colorado in an area that contains a
large variety of landslide phenomena, and the area has undergone considerable
development. Thus, Vail forms an ideal base for a series of 1-day Field Trips
offered on Wednesday June 6, 2007, to all Conference participants - including
accompanying persons (guests) - with costs included in their registration.
The itineraries are designed to complement the various Conference themes. They are designed as an integral part of the Conference technical program. The trips will by chartered buses and vans, and picnic lunches will be served. All these field trips will start from, and return to, the Conference hotel in Vail.
Insurance requirements mandate that participants ride the bus or van provided for the trip.
While all trips are designed to explore technical issues, several trips are explicitly designed to reflect a blend of cultural and technical topics. A few itineraries will involve more strenuous activity, while others are suitable for those requiring less physically challenging travel. Several trips are entirely feasible for persons with restricted mobility.
Participants should be aware that the central Rocky Mountains are a region of high elevations. Vail itself is at 7000 ft (2300m) elevation, and the mountain peaks reach 14000 ft (4700m). Some itineraries involve visiting sites at 11000 ft (3350m). Health considerations should be considered in selecting a field trip. The characteristics of each trip are clearly defined in the accompanying detailed descriptions.
Because the maximum capacity of many trips is limited, during registration, each participant will be able to identify a FIRST, SECOND, and THIRD choice for the concurrent Wednesday field trip from among the several trips being offered. The Conference Organizers will attempt to satisfy these requests, but capacity constraints on some trips may result in some being filled to capacity. Field trip preferences will be assigned in the order they are received. Early registrants will have the best selection!
A total of NINE different itineraries are being offered for the concurrent Wednesday
field trips. Details on each trip can be obtained by clicking on the trip title below:
Conference participants also have the opportunity to participate in two
optional field trips conducted before and after the conference. These
trips are NOT INCLUDED in the basic registration, and involve additional costs.
These trips include:
