Branden Burden, mining engineer at the Cash Mine presented about explosives use in small mining operations.Leif Borgeson, the snow safety supervisor at Arapahoe Ski Basin discussed avalanche blasting. In particular he talked about the processes of avalanche formation, the effects of blasting on avalanche prone snow, the types of avalanche blasting, and the limitations of avalanche blasting.
Denise K. Pauler of Colorado School of Mines presented her past research at Los Alamos National Laboratory on the decomposition of plastic bonded explosive. In her discussion she went over the mechanics and chemistry involved as well as the research process.
Larry Brown of Applied Research discussed mine detection and removal. He went over the research that was being done in developing a safe and low cost means of disabling land mines.
Dale Goetz of the Boulder County Bombsquad, talked about the bomb squad. The types of illegal and dangerous explosives that they deal with, safety, and their tools were discussed. Many neat and interesting projects were shown as demonstrated in the pictures. The chapter president, Josh Gresham, got to put on the 90lb.+ bomb suit!
E-Days 2006 The student chapter sold a shirt at the E-Days firework show which was immortalized at the show. The monday before E-Days a presentation of about rocketry and pyrotechnics was given in part by Night Musik, the pyrotechnics group that does the spetacularE-Days firework show.
