Newmont Rock Mechanics and Stiff Testing Laboratories

This is the main functional activity center of the rock mechanics laboratory complex at CSM. The Newmont Rock Mechanics Laboratory is the focus of the undergraduate educational program. The larger one million pound "stiff" testing machine, housed separately, is the focus of graduate research work in rock mechanics.

In addition, there are carrels where students can measure rock properties and prepare samples for testing in the large testing machines. These modern laboratories provide students with access to the most up-to-date equipment available for education and research and an opportunity for an unsurpassed learning experience.
