CSM (Colorado School of Mines)
is a unique university dedicated to the sciences, engineering, and high
technologies, with modern facilities and innovative research centers. The
Physics department is engaged in more than $1.5 million annually of funded
research with strong programs in Condensed Matter Physics, Photovoltaics,
Theoretical Physics, Applied Nuclear Physics, Plasma Physics, Acoustics,
Ultrafast Lasers, and Applied Optics. The department benefits from strong
ties to national facilities such as the nearby National Renewable Energy
Laboratory and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, cooperative relationships
with local industry, national and international collaborations with
universities and government labs, and active collaborations with many other
departments on campus. Members of the physics program are heavily
involved in the Center for
Solar and Electronic Materials and the Colorado
Energy Research Institute.
The department offers the M.S. and the Ph.D. in Applied Physics. The Physics department also participates in CSM's interdisciplinary Materials Science Program. Applicants who are interested in working with Physics Professors apply to either the Physics program or the Materials Science program. Financial aid is available to qualified applicants in both programs through teaching and research assistantships and fellowships. CSM is located along the beautiful Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in the community of Golden, Colorado. Golden is within easy driving distance of some of the world's best ski slopes, rock climbing crags, moutain biking, hiking and backpacking, and several national parks. Located 15 minutes away is metropolitan Denver, a social, cultural, and business center of the west. On this page you will find links to descriptions of our
