Fulbright Visiting Scholar Former Malaysian Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs

GOLDEN, Colo. May 10, 2007 – Ambassador Dr . Mohd Azhari Bin Abdul Karim of Malaysia will spend fall 2007 in residence in the Division of Liberal Arts and International Studies at Colorado School of Mines as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar.

The Malaysian Prime Minister's office has assigned the topic of energy policy in the U.S. for Ambassador Azhari to research during his stay. Upon his return, he will head an energy policy research center at the Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang.

While the ambassador is in residence at Mines, he will guest lecture in International Political Economy and Human Systems courses.

He has served as an Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs in the Malaysian government, was the Malaysian ambassador to Iran from 1990-1993, and to Spain from 1992-1994. He also has served as a diplomat in Austria, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Canada, China, Germany, Romania and the U.S.
