| Professor Wins Outstanding Research Award GOLDEN, Colo., July 30, 2007 – Colorado School of Mines professor Jorg Drewes has been selected by the Rocky Mountain Section of the American Water Works Association to receive the Outstanding Research Award for his exceptional performance and dedication to improving water quality and treatment processes. The award, which recognizes outstanding research conducted on water-related topics within Colorado, New Mexico and Wyoming, will be presented to Dr. Drewes during an AWWA luncheon to be held Sept. 10 in Keystone, Colo. Dr. Drewes was selected based on his six years of water-related research at Mines involving water treatment, reclamation, and reuse using membrane processes and soil-aquifer treatment systems with special emphasis on removal and fate of organic matter and emerging contaminants of concern. His research has included laboratory studies and experimentation combined with pilot-scale treatability studies and field investigations at facilities in Colorado and other western states. The research results are being applied locally in design and performance prediction for water treatment technologies and systems including the American Water Works Association Research Foundation riverbank filtration research project and the City of Aurora aquifer recharge and recovery project.
