| Mines celebrates Martin Luther King Jr. Day GOLDEN, Colo., Jan. 10, 2008 – Members of the community are invited to join Colorado School of Mines students, staff and faculty in celebrating the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 21 from 5:15 to 7 p.m. in the Green Center, 924 16 th St., on the Mines campus in Golden. The event is sponsored by the President's Diversity Committee. “Diversity provides broad appreciation of different cultures, recognizes the changing demographics of tomorrow's leaders, and provides a learning environment for our students more indicative of the world they'll live in,” said Mines President M.W. “Bill” Scoggins. Attendees will enjoy a free meal, student poetry, entertainment and a presentation by multiple service organizations throughout the Denver area. Reverb and the Verse, a progressive hip-hop group, will offer stimulating music while citizens and students explore different service options. “We are very excited to be a part of this inspirational event,” said Jahi Simbai, lead vocalist of Reverb and the Verse and Mines director of graduate recruiting and admissions. “I hope the Mines and Golden communities enjoy the event and are motivated to join organizations that help those in need.” For additional information, please contact the Office of Student Activities at 303-273-3234.
