Mines community mourns loss of President Emeritus Guy T. McBride, Jr.
GOLDEN, Colo., March 23, 2011 – President emeritus and devoted friend of Colorado School of Mines, Dr. Guy T. McBride, Jr., died March 21, 2011.
Dr. McBride served as the 12th president of Colorado School of Mines from 1970 to 1984. During his 14 years of distinguished service to Mines, undergraduate enrollment nearly doubled, three major new buildings (the Green Center, Brown Hall and the Ben Parker Student Center) were constructed on the campus, a major fundraising effort was launched, and 25 named professorships and lectureships were established. The Mines Board of Trustees named the Guy T. McBride, Jr. Honors Program in Public Affairs in his honor.
Prior to his appointment as president at Mines, Dr. McBride was vice president of Texasgulf. Inc. Previously he served as dean of students and associate professor of chemical engineering at Rice University. Dr. McBride received his B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Texas and his Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The memorial service for Dr. McBride will be held March 25 at 9 a.m., followed by a reception at Crown Hill Mortuary and Cemetery, 7777 W. 29th Avenue in Wheat Ridge. There also will be a viewing March 24 between 4-7 p.m. at Crown Hill.
