PrimeStar Solar founder presents seminar series at Mines

GOLDEN, Colo., August 29, 2011 – Dr. Brian Murphy, co-founder of PrimeStar Solar, a thin-film solar company recently sold to General Electric, will present the 2011 Division of Economics and Business Executive-in-Residence Seminar Series at Colorado School of Mines.

Murphy served as chairman and CEO of PrimeStar for nearly four years before GE announced acquisition of the company in April 2011 along with its efficient, world record setting technology. GE now plans to build the largest solar module factory in the United States.

Beyond PrimeStar, Murphy has extensive senior executive experience in development, commercialization and operations for companies with complex, state-of-the-art technology portfolios. He has founded or been an early leader in five startup companies and negotiated nearly $400 million in financing.

Murphy will present six seminars as part of the Engineering and Technology Management Program’s (ETM) 2011 Executive-In-Residence Seminar Series:

  • Aug. 30: So You Want to be an Entrepreneur!
  • Sept. 20: Communication — the Achilles Heel of all Relationships
  • Sept. 27: Operational Excellence — The Ability to See
  • Oct. 11: Does Organizational Culture Really Matter?
  • Nov. 1: The Nuts and Bolts of Sales and Marketing for Today’s Leaders
  • Nov. 29: Leadership is Not Just for Breakfast Anymore

The seminar series allows executives from industry to pass on insight and knowledge to graduate students. The purpose of the seminar series is to enhance awareness about what professionals should expect in organizations confronted with the realities of the new innovation economy. It also focuses on how professionals must take ownership of their career, craft their definition of success, prepare for and be receptive to change.

All seminars are free and open to the public. The seminars will be held from 4-5:15 p.m. in Hill Hall, room 202.
