Mines exists to blend your talents with faculty of exceptional quality into a community of scholars. In doing so, the institution as a whole advances the frontiers of knowledge, the potential of student scholars, industries reliant on graduates and research products, and society at large.

Mines' top-tier faculty are second to none. They have held research positions not only in academia, but also in industry. With a low graduate student-to-faculty ratio of 4 to 1, you can expect a highly personalized educational experience.

With a $40 million annual research budget, and faculty who have pioneered numerous advances in a wide range of technical fields, your opportunity for meaningful research is virtually unlimited at Mines.

In addition to world-class research and educational facilities in each department, there are 25 independent research centers on campus. These centers focus on all aspects of Mines' research portfolio, ranging from traditional research in geosciences and resource exploration, production and manufacturing, to new activities in renewable energy (solar, wind, fuel cells), materials (ferrous, ceramic and bio), environmental and water resources, nuclear fuels and high performance computing.

Also, a rich and dynamic environment surrounds the school with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) conveniently located nearby.
