Jefferson Foundation's Crystal Ball honors Colorado School of Mines
Foundation celebrates 25 years of service to Jeffco Public Schools with a science/technology-themed event
September 2, 2008, LAKEWOOD, CO – The Jefferson Foundation has a lot to celebrate after 25 years of bringing financial support and enrichment to the students of Jeffco Public Schools. That translates into over $7.5 Million in program funding.
On October 25th, 2008, the highly anticipated 2008 Crystal Ball fundraiser: Reflections will recognize the Colorado School of Mines with the 2008 Crystal Globe for Distinguished Service Award.
Founded in 1874, Colorado School of Mines (CSM) was established to serve the needs of the local mining industry. Today, the School has an international reputation for excellence in both engineering education and the applied sciences, with special expertise in the development and stewardship of the Earth’s resources. The Jefferson Foundation provides grants to CSM’s Mobile Science Show K-12 educational outreach program which uses an interactive, standards-based approach to science, math and technology, and aims to improve teacher competency and student aptitude in applied sciences.
In addition, Dr. Joe Romig (Lakewood High School) will be on hand to accept the 2008 Distinguished Jeffco Alumnus honor. And, the Gold Crown Foundation will be acknowledged with a Community Service Award for its shared commitment to the youth of Jefferson County.
Jeffco Alum and 9News anchor, Kim Christiansen, will host the night’s events, and Science Education Specialist, Steve Spangler will be on hand to liven things up. The gala will bring 700 revelers to the Grand Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Denver to celebrate the accomplishments of public education and recognize the Jeffco citizens, businesses, organizations, and institutions that are its greatest supporters.
Who will win the Foundation’s 2008 Titanium Silver BMW 128i? Lisa Schomp, of Schomp Automotive, the donor of the sporty vehicle, will draw the lucky raffle ticket winner. Dinner, dancing, silent and live auctions, and birthday cake!
