Selected Work Projects:
- Trailhead
(campus portal) Support and Development:
The current campus portal uses Luminis 3 software from SunGard Higher Ed (who
also makes the Banner system software). I help with user support and application
developent. We are testing and developing new Single-Sign-On (SSO) applications
for Trailhead. Additionally, we are testing and developing Luminis 4 for campus
use. Luminis 4 may be ready for campus rollout over winter (Dec 2008) or summer
break (July 2009).
- Mines Help Center
Support and Development:
The Mines Help Center (MHC) was developed to help centralize many campus support
functions. MHC runs on Footprints from Numara Software. I maintain the
interfaces for customers and agents, and helped develop the overall MHC system.
If you have suggestions or comments that may help improve the Mines Help Center,
please submit them via the MHC at http://helpdesk.mines.edu/.
- User DataBase Project (UDBng):
The UDBng Project is part of the larger campus Identity Management issue. With
Identity Management, we need to know who is on campus and what campus roles a
person has. With the UDBng Project we are concerned with campus computer
account management... who are you, what is your campus username and to which
resources are you entitled use. I have a few different roles here... one is as
the project facilitator and another is as one of the technical developers. A lot
of campus systems and support staff are involved here. You might say that the
project involves first detangling a big ball of data and data systems that are stuck
together with a hot glue gun and bound by duct tape and baling wire, and then
connecting some of the old parts with new systems and data in an orderly fashion.
Most campus computer users don't know that this project exists, but it is an
important part of our infrastructure.
Personal Info & Links:
- Peace Corps: I am a returned
Peace Corps Volunteer (RPCV). My husband and I were Peace Corps Volunteers in Zambia from
2003 to 2005. We helped subsistence farmers incorporate low-cost, sustainable fresh water fish farming
(Oreochromis niloticus) into their existing farming practices. Like all other current Peace
Corps Volunteers, we also incorporated HIV/AIDs education into our work. Besides helping
some farmers to double their yearly income and increase protein availability, I learned a lot
about the world and myself. Being a Peace Corps Volunteer changed my perspective on life
and what it means to be a good world citizen. I plan to become a Peace Corps Volunteer
again a few years down the line. Peace Corps' "3rd Goal" is to share our stories and
experiences with others. Please feel free to contact me if you are interested in becoming a
Peace Corps Volunteer or want to learn more about Peace Corps.
- One Laptop Per Child Project: This is a
cool project... and cool laptops. I hope it takes off. It'd be great if OLPC and Peace Corps collaborated here.
Currently each country that participates, decides on how to deploy and train students and teachers to use the laptops.
Next time I'm a Peace Corps Volunteer, I'd like to work on a digital divide project.
