MID-LATITUDE REGIONAL CLIMATES
Continent wide climatic determiners interact with each other
and with major topographic features to determine regional
and sub-regional precipitation patterns. Three major
regions may be distinguished: the
Pacific Coast region,
bounded by the Pacific Ocean and the ridge line of the Pacific Coastal
Range, the
interior region,
including the intermontane
west (between the Pacific Coast range and the Rockies), the
Great Plains and the upper MIdwest; and the
eastern region,
bounded by the Ohio and St. Lawerence Valleys and the Atlantic
Ocean. See
Fig. 1.1.17.
