LISS.398A TECHNOLOGY, ENVIRONMENT and HUMAN ADAPTATION:
PART II PRE-EUROPEAN
MESOAMERICA
Located in between Structures H and P in the Main Plaza, the
adoratorio
consists of a feature interpreted as
an alter situated in the center of a rectangular, stone lined
depression. The top of the alter is at roughly the same level as
the surface of the
plaza.
Excavation near the east side of the alter revealed a burial of several adults containing jade artifacts including a
bat mask.
The burial also contained
Monte Albán II pottery
suggesting that construction dates to this phase.
Also probably dating to this phase is a
tunnel
underneath the plaza in the vicinity of the adoratorio connecting Structure P with the central
structures.
