LISS.398A TECHNOLOGY, ENVIRONMENT and HUMAN ADAPTATION:
PART II PRE-EUROPEAN
MESOAMERICA
MONTE ALBAN IV (750-1000 A.D.) - V (1000-1520 A.D.)
By the end of Monte Albán IV the
Main Plaza
had been completely abandoned. A relatively small population of some 4000 people continued to occupy the site through the Monte
Albán V phase clustering mostly on the
hillside to the north
of the
North Platform
inside the
defensive wall
near the bottom of the hill.
Surface evidence of a Monte Albán IV occupation is lacking,
but some 40% of the tombs located in the area described above
contain material datable to IV. This has prompted some to suggest that this part of Monte Albán was a “necropolis” during
Monte Albán IV only to be reoccupied during V.
Material specific to this period is drawn from
Blanton '83.
