The EIT/FE exam review course at the Colorado School of Mines

Each semester a review course for the EIT exam is offered at the Colorado School of Mines.  The course is free to current Mines Seniors who are in ABET programs and within one year of graduation.  Outside guests are welcome to join the course but must pay a fee.

Nature of the Course

The class meets each Tuesday evening between 7 and 9 p.m. for nine sessions prior to the Saturday exam.  One of the EIT topics is covered each session.  The course is not intended to replace personal study and preparation for the exam, but is rather a review/reminder of the important topics and aspects of each subject.

Course Coordinator

The review sessions are organized by Dr. Chet Van Tyne, P.E. of the Metallurgy Department at the Colorado School of Mines.  CONTACT for questions: Van Tyne, x3793, HH372, cvantyne@mines.edu.

Important Application Information

Applying to take the exam is NOT the same as taking the course.  The application process, for everyone except current Mines seniors, to take the EIT exam is done thorough the Colorado State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.  Non-Mines seniors, including graduate students, must apply by January 1st and July 1st for the April and October exams respectively, following the procedures at the State Board website @ http://www.dora.state.co.us/aes/index.htm .

For CURRENT Mines seniors, the application process is explained at the first review session and the applications are due shortly thereafter.

For EVERYONE ELSE, including Mines graduate students, all must apply to take the exam directly thru the State Board.  The number of the board is 303-894-7788.  Applications for the end-of-October exam are usually due in early July and for the mid-April exam in early January.  If you are not a current Mines senior you must apply yourself; it does no good to show up for the review classes not having had your application already approved by the Board!

Cost of the Review Course

For current Mines seniors, and for most current graduate students, the review course is free.  For everyone else the cost is $250, payable by check made out to CSM at the first review session.

Recommended Review Materials

Handouts, and links to material posted on this website, are often provided for many of the review topics, but do not replace your texts and other review materials.  It is recommended, but not required, that one purchase an EIT/FE review manual.  These are published by a variety of authors/publishers and we have never received negative feedback on any of the manuals.  One source of review manuals is at www.ppi2pass.com.

These manuals are often available thru college bookstores and are also sometimes sold by the student professional societies at the first few review sessions (often at a discount).

FOR THIS Spring !!! IMPORTANT!!! Strict calculator requirements remain in effect!!!!!!
