international ground water modeling center

ACTIVITIES & COST STRUCTURE:

Advisory Services

IGWMC provides a telephone advisory service, (303) 273-3105, not only for supporting software distributed by IGWMC, but also for advising on generic modeling questions and site specific applications. Graduate students document the questions and, when possible, provide solutions. For more difficult questions, the students organize the information and associated materials and pass them to an experienced faculty member. The students receive training for answering the phones. Charges are FREE for situations where there is a software bug or faulty disk purchased from IGWMC, to a minimum of $15 for the first 5 minutes and then $0.75/minute thereafter for student services, and $3.00/min when upper level personnel are required to evaluate the problem. We have expeditiously resolved many technical questions. Consequently, when you are uncertain about an issue or cannot move forward with a project until an issue is resolved, we believe the advisory service is a cost effective alternative for your company, because it can save hours of employee time required to unravel the problem or correct an error resulting from an incorrect decision by an uncertain employee. In addition to cost effectively advancing the project, the company will be facilitating the furthering of the education of a ground-water engineering student. It's essentially a "teaching hospital", but the patients are your ground-water problems.

Software

Software sales continue. In addition, the center encourages and supports public domain code development and distribution.

Courses

Courses are designed to serve the present-day professional.

Conferences

IGWMC hosts a specialty modeling conference every third year. Currently we plan to hold a conference on MODFLOW and More: Ground Water and Public Policy in May 2008.

IGWMC Web Page:

The web page includes:

Newsletter

News letters are mailed and published on the web, an email announcement will notify everyone when a new issue is released and provide a connection to the electronic newsletter. We welcome your suggestions & contributions to the news letters!

Research and Development

Research projects include a variety of topics related to ground-water modeling.

Memberships in IGWMC

Government agencies are no longer supporting entities such as the IGWMC. However, if many ground-water oriented companies maintain a low cost membership in the center, then it can continue to provide valuable advising, teaching, information dissemination, software distribution and research services to the profession. Maintaining a membership in IGWMC provides stable support to ensure that the IGWMC services are there when you want them. It also supports the education of ground-water professionals by providing graduate students with a means of augmenting their finances while practicing in their technical area. Finally, it provides you with reduced rates on IGWMC events and services and numerous other items as indicated below.
