MINTEQAK
Modeling Geochemical and Biogeochemical Processes in Wetlands and Reactors to Treat Acid Drainage
Order No: FOS 88

MINTEQAK is an extensive modification of the MINTEQA2 code to model the change in composition of aqueous flow as it traverses a wetland/reactor system. The code allows modeling of an anaerobic wetland/ reactor, an aerobic wetland, or an anaerobic wetland/ reactor in series with an aerobic wetland. Modeled processes include dissolution of limestone, ion exchange, microbial sulfate reduction, denitrification, adsorption, precipitation of solids, and dillution by precipitation.

MINTEQAK comes with a two-part documentation describing the processes, example applications to typical wetlands, and an extensive users manual. This users manual includes a discussion of potential numerical problems and what to do about it. The MINTEQAK code requires familiarity with the MINTEQA2 program and the presence of various data base files which are included in the MINTEQA2 program. The main input data file can be prepared with MINTEQA2 input preparation program PRODEFA2. The development of MINTEQAK has been sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Interior, U.S Bureau of Mines, Denver, Colorado.

MINTEQAK is a public domain program distributed on a DOS-formatted disk, containing source code, executable image, and data sets. The documentation includes an IGWMC prepared file with installation instructions.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Intel 80i86 based computer with math coprocessor, 640Kb RAM (low or conventional memory only), hard drive with at least 3 Mb free disk space for both MINTEQAK and MINTEQA2, and DOS 3.0 or higher; program does not include graphics. MINTEQA2 is separately sold by IGWMC.
