**The most requested issues are by far Vol. 69 #3 & #4, Gold Placers of Colorado, Books 1 & 2 by Ben Parker, Jr. The Library has a limited number of reprinted issues of Vol. 69, #3 (Gold Placers of Colorado, Book 1). We do not regularly have any copies of Vol. 69, #4 (Gold Placers of Colorado, Book 2). At this time, there are no plans to republish Book 1 or Book 2. If you are searching for Book 2, we recommend used/rare book dealers. On rare occasion, the Library receives copies of both Book 1 & 2, when this happens, they will be available during the silent auction portion of our Annual Book Sale which is held each year the week of the President’s Day Holiday in February. The silent auction is held during the morning of the first day of the sale.**

History
Publication of the Quarterly of the Colorado School of Mines began in July, 1906. The first issue contained the 1906 commencement address and a paper titled, "Cooperation between the State Mining Bureau and the State School of Mines" written by CSM President Victor C. Alderson. Early issues of the Quarterly contained commencement addresses; articles on mining, minerals and metallurgy; and progress reports on the mining industry in Colorado. One issue each year or two was the school's catalog for the upcoming year (or two years) and one issue (again, sometimes annually, sometimes once in two years) was devoted to photographs of the CSM campus.

During the early 1920's many issues were devoted to topics related to oil shale. As the years passed, the size of the publication increased and included original articles on various topics related to the mission of the institution. Beginning in the 1950's, the school catalog was no longer published as a part of the Quarterly series and all issues were concerned with research topics.

Change of Name and Emphasis
The following information prefaced the Winter 1988 issue (Volume 83, No. 4). "For more than 100 [sic] years, the Colorado School of Mines scholarly journal CSM Quarterly has published original (juried) research in the fields of education, engineering, earth sciences, and the environment.

Beginning in 1992, the CSM Quarterly Review of Engineering, Science, Education and Research will expand its editorial content to provide a more global, balanced perspective on the issues surrounding engineering and science education, research, management, and environmental concerns.

The CSM Quarterly Review will no longer be limited to the publication of original research, but will offer selected excerpts from papers delivered at earth science and education-related symposia throughout the world. Each issue will provide analysis of selected topics germane to the mission of responsible management of the earth's resources. Acknowledged experts in given fields will be allowed the opportunity to provide viewpoints on relevant issues. The journal will also endeavor to record the impact-at the most fundamental human level-of national and international energy and mineral resource policy decisions on education, research and the world community."

Name Change
Effective with Volume 99:1 the name of the publication became Colorado School of Mines Quarterly. The current ISSN is 1536-6766.
