Follow These Steps |
 |
Go to the Basic Search screen in Catalyst. Enter the term or terms you wish to search for in the Search for field. |
 |
Select the type of search from the Search by list. Consult the Search
Tips below the dialog box for help in determining which type of search is best for you. |
 |
(Optional) Select a Library location limit (archive, CSM theses, map room, etc.) from the Quick Location Limits menu (use only for Keyword and Title searches). |
 |
(Optional) Reduce the number of search results
and improve their relevance by clicking the Set Limits button (available
limits include year, language and
Library location). From the Basic Search page these limits are effective only for Titles and Keywords searches.
Search limits stay in effect until you
exit Catalyst or click on the Undo
button. |
|
Click the Submit button to
run the search. The Reset
button clears the information
entered. In some resulting lists
format icons show the type of
material (book, map, thesis etc.). |
 |
Use the Search Dialog boxes at the top of the results page to alter the current search or conduct a different search. Use the Jump Bar to move quickly through your results list. Use the Sort by drop-down to change the title list order, and use the
Post Limit button to limit by any of the criteria in the limits list . |
|
Use the
Format Records to Save, Print or Email dialog box at the bottom of the results page to email, print or save some or all of your search results. You can choose to save titles in your Bookbag, or save the Search Query for later sessions. Use the
Clear Selected and
Retain Selected buttons to clear or retain
result selections as you move through results pages. |
|
For information about a specific item, click on the item's hyper-linked title or author. The
red and white Internet
graphic in the returned title list
indicates the availability of an
online resource.
To access the online resource, open
the item's record and click on the
displayed "Internet Links". |
 |
The Brief View will provide basic information, including location in the Library and call number, about the title you choose to view. For journals, this view provides information on the volumes that the Library owns. |

can be used to help you locate similar
items. |

as well as other help topics. |
