"Browsing" and "Searching" in Catalyst result in different types of displays
("Heading" and "Title"
displays, respectively).
For example, Author Browse
searches from the Basic Search screen
result in a display
listing author
"names" in groups of 25
(or however you've
set your "records
per page" option). These lists are called
"Headings Displays".
The number of titles associated with each name
varies according
to what the library
owns. In the left column, "See Also" references to related
information may
appear.
|
 |
You can browse forward or backward from the nearest match to the
term you searched by using the Next and Previous arrows.
Only one heading and its associated titles may be viewed at a time by clicking on the heading.
To return to the headings list, click on
the Heading
Results button at the top of the page.
|
 |
To display the titles associated with a heading, click on the underlined
link. A title
list display (or a brief display if there is only one item) will appear.
The title list display includes
Library location, call number and
status
(Checked Out ,
Available, etc.). Clicking on the title will result in a brief display. Only one record may be viewed at a time.
To return to the title display after viewing a record, click on
the Title Results
button at the top of the page. |
 |
Similarly, Call Number Browse searches will place you in a list of call numbers, with the call number you entered listed first. You may then move forward or back, as if you were browsing the shelves, by using the Next or Previous buttons. |
 |
Results from all other searches
(Keyword,
Subject, Title, etc., from the Basic Search screen and all searches from the Custom Search screen) appear in a Titles Display, in groups of 25
(or however you've set your "records
per page" option).
Records in a
Titles Display
include author,
title, date of
publication, library
location, call
number and status
(Checked Out,
Available, etc.).
