Collection Management acquires, organizes, and maintains materials for the Arthur Lakes Library collections, and also provides access to the Library's Archives and Special Collections.

Collection Development

Purpose: selects and acquires materials in support of CSM curriculum and research; handles gifts and donations.

Library Liaisons and Library Advisory Committee

Arthur Lakes Library faculty staff are responsible for selecting books and other materials in specific subject areas and for serving as contacts between the academic departments and the Library. The Library Advisory Committee consists of these librarians and a faculty representative from each academic department on campus. See the Staff Directory for liaison assignments.

Serials

Purpose: handles all aspects of the Library's journal, magazine, and newspaper subscriptions including ordering, receiving, and cataloging.

Journal Binding Policy

Journal binding is carried out in the summer to limit the inconvenience to academic patrons. Catalyst provides online assistance to help patrons determine if a desired issue is received or at the bindery.

Cataloging

Purpose: catalogs books, CSM theses, faculty publications, etc. for the Library's collections and maintains records of these items in the Catalyst database.

CSM Faculty Publications

The Cataloging unit is responsible for creating catalog records for research and technical reports, monographs, and conference proceedings that include work by CSM faculty or by CSM research centers. Records are entered on OCLC and are accessible worldwide through OCLC's FirstSearch service; records also appear on the library's Catalyst online catalog. New faculty publications are displayed in the Library on a regular basis. Contact M. Dale (303) 273-3446) to submit new publications.

Preservation

Purpose: preserves all materials in the Library for present and future use employing only standard, acceptable methods and materials.

Thesis Submission
In order that the Library might protect and preserve CSM's graduate theses, each graduate student in a thesis program must submit required copies of his/her thesis to the Library's Preservation unit prior to the thesis deadline imposed by the Graduate School.

Hours for thesis submission are: 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
