- In the spring of 2001, UnCover merged with Ingenta. Ingenta provides access to article summaries from over 20,000 publications linked to the full text of over 4,500 titles.
- Anyone can use Ingenta and can, where available (from any CSM computer system), access the summary of any article.
- Open the Ingenta search page by selecting the Ingenta database from the Database Search Page page (see a Reference Librarian for assistance).
- Click the search search options button to search publications, issues and tables of contents. The more boxes you fill in the more focused the search becomes. Search expressions can be entered in upper or lower case.

- You can search by:
- Article Title only
- Article Title, Keyword, or Abstract
- Author Names
- Publication Title
- ISSN
- Year Range/Since Date
- Volume/Issue
- Click search to perform your search.

- In general, the expression that you enter in any box can be a single term (word or phrase) or several terms connected by one of the following operators:
- ampersand (&) to search for records that contain all of your search terms
- comma (,) to search for records that contain any of the search terms
- AND, OR, or NOT
- To search for a phrase, enclose it in quotes. You can join phrases with operators
Example: "nursing theory" and mentor*
- To treat operators as a word, place it within quotes
Example: "war and peace"
- Using parentheses will allow you to use multiple operators. The words and operators enclosed in parentheses will be handled as one search and then combined with other words
Example: (recognition or award) and (performance or production or output)
- You may refine your searches by including the volume and issue numbers and the year of publication, or range of years.
- A word may be truncated using the asterisk as a truncation symbol
Example: AUSTRAL* will find any of AUSTRALIA, AUSTRALIAN, AUSTRALASIA etc.
- Within a word, ? can be used as a wild card character representing any 1 character
Example: PRIVATI?ATION will retrieve PRIVATISATION or PRIVATIZATION.
- The # character is a "wild word" which can be used to represent any word in a phrase
Example: PIGS # FLY may retrieve Pigs might fly.

Use the search options form to search in the following fields:
- Search since last update
- Title Only
- Title, keyword and summary
- Author Name
- Publication Title
- Volume and issue
- Year
- Current search history

You can browse journals by:
- First letter of the journal title
- Subject area: Select a subject from the pull-down menu to view all the publications in that subject area.
- Words in the title
- Publisher

Names of authors are given in the form SURNAME INITIALS or SURNAME_INITIALS. Any punctuation such as hyphens, spaces and apostrophes must be used in your search. You can search on just the surname or you can specify initials - for best results use truncation after the first initial. Search only one author at a time.
Some examples of author searches are given below:
- MORGAN
- Morgan L*
- MORGAN_L*
- O'Rourke
- SAN MIGUEL J*
- AJCHENBAUM-CYMBALISTA F*

You can use your search results to:
- View the article summary
- Create a Marked List of articles that can be downloaded or emailed to yourself or a colleague.
- View the full-text if you or your institution subscribe. The article will be placed in the shopping cart but will state that you gain free access. You will need to proceed to checkout where you will be able to download the full-text of the article.
- Purchase the article by adding it to your shopping cart. If you do not subscribe to a publication, it may be possible to purchase the article. All details, including price, will appear in the shopping cart. Articles can be removed at any stage.

- Click on the Email entire list button to email your search results to your email address or to a colleague. You will be able to add a message before your email is sent.

- Selecting the Display for printing button will reformat your search results so that they can be easily printed from the screen.
- Selecting the Display for download button will reformat your search results as ASCII text so that they can be easily downloaded to disk.

- Click on the Search ingenta button.
To exit Ingenta
- Click on the Sign Out button at the top of the screen.

- Help is available at any stage. Each screen has a button marked need help? - this gives information about the current screen. The navigation bar at the top of screen has a Help option for information about the site.

Subject area searches
There are fifteen subject area resources for you to search and browse, broken down into 125 sub-categories of resources, including links statistical data, e-prints, images, software, technical reports, grey literature, reference resources, and specialized e-communities.
Saved Searches
Saving your searches allows you to return to them at a later date, to re-run or edit them. Unless you save your searches they will be erased after each session. You must be registered with Ingenta to use the saved searches facility. The Saved Searches page gives you more information - select need help?
About Article Delivery
Purchase the article by adding it to your shopping cart. If you do not subscribe to a publication, it may be possible to purchase the article. All details, including price, will appear in the shopping cart. Articles can be removed at any stage.
About Reveal
Reveal is an electronic mail alert service. You can use the Reveal service to receive table of contents information from any of the over 20,000 titles in the Ingenta database. Reveal can also alert you to new articles on topics of interest to you. This service will continue after Reveal is moved to the new Ingenta system. |
