One of the most significant benefits of participation in EMFI programs is the opportunity to meet other key decisionmakers in the area of energy and mineral resources. This is particularly true in the federal sector, in which there is so much jurisdictional overlap among various Executive agencies and Congressional offices. The 2006 Alumni Reunion was held on October 26 at the Capital City Brewing Company near Union Station. The EMFI has nearly 900 "alumni" -- individuals who have participated in one or more summer field programs. The majority of these individuals represented Executive offices, Congressional committees, or the personal staffs of various Members of Congress when they attended the Institute. EMFI Reunions enable these former participants to maintain contact with their colleagues in an informal and non-partisan environment. And, of course, it provides a forum to discuss the many interesting and exciting (and sometimes embarrassing) memories of the participants' field trip experiences! Furthermore, as alumni follow their individual career paths, sometimes within the federal sector and sometimes into the private sector, the value of the alumni network continues to grow, incorporating an increasingly diverse community of influential individuals with a wide variety of perspectives on energy and mineral development. As new Institute participants join these ranks, they are able to access the wealth of knowledge and experience represented by these Institute alumni.
